Getting Around, Parma Travel and Parma Transport
(Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, IT)
Parma is a relatively small city and is therefore easy to travel around on foot. Indeed, as the historic centre of the city is closed to traffic to avoid pollution and congestion problems, cars are a mostly redundant form of transport, unless you plan to travel around the region during your stay.
A popular way of travelling quickly and easily within Parma is to hire a bicycle, and these can be hired relatively inexpensively at several outlets within the city centre.

Parma Airport is located just 3 km / 2 miles north-west of the city centre. It operates a limited number of flights to Palermo, Catania, Tirana, Rome and London Stansted. Taxis transport is available outside the terminal and the airport is also served by a number of well-known car rental agencies. Alternatively, a bus service meets each departure and arrival at the airport. For international travellers, larger airports are located in Bologna and Milan and these connect with Parma via regular train services.
Parma Travel and Transport: Parma Car Rental - Parma, Italy, IT
If you plan to travel to Parma by car, then it's best to leave the car behind when visiting the centre. This is because the historic centre is designated a car-free area. Visitors can park at the underground car park on Viale Toschi or use metered parking spaces by the train station. An alternative option is to use one of the many park-and-ride facilities located on the outskirts, next to key access points into the city.
Those looking to travel further afield during your visit, Parma is situated on the A1 which links Bologna and Milan. In addition, the Via Emilia, also known as the S9, goes through the city via a ring road.
