Parma Shopping and Parma Shopping Districts
(Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, IT)
Parma is a delightful place to shop, because it is so easy to get around. For many visitors, a stroll around the city centre offers an ideal opportunity to browse its shopping streets or stock up on souvenirs of Parma.
As is the case in all Italian cities, there's ample opportunity in Parma's shops to pick up an outfit or two, including handbags and shoes. For serious shopaholics, a large out-of-town shopping outlet is only a short drive away from the city itself.
Parma Shopping: When to Shop / Opening Hours - Parma, Italy, IT
Shops in Parma generally close for a long lunch break. Opening hours are from around 10:00 to 13:30 and then 15:30 to19:30 during the week and on Saturdays. However, opening times may vary between shops.
It may be worth setting Mondays aside for sightseeing rather than shopping. Many boutiques and larger stores tend to close on Monday mornings and many food shops choose to close on Monday afternoons.
Parma Shopping: Where to Shop - Parma, Italy, IT
Parma's main shopping area can be found in the historic centre, making it convenient both to mix a spot of sightseeing with some shopping. Its picturesque shopping arcades are perfect for window shopping or picking up a special gift, including Acqua di Parma, the city's famous perfume, and a confectionary associated with yesteryear, Parma Violets. Shops also stock a host of souvenir foodstuffs as a reminder of an enjoyable holiday, including Parmesan cheese and Parma ham.
Alternatively, you may want to hit the city's boutiques and other clothes stores. Max Mara is based just down the road in Reggio Emilia and this famous fashion house also has a branch in Parma.
The antique market at Via d'Azeglio is held every Thursday. It is well worth a visit for anyone looking for some special piece of jewellery or china to take home.
If you find that you are missing the 'big shopping experience', then a short trip out of Parma brings you to Fidenza Village, an outlet shopping centre with a difference. It has been built to look like a traditional village, but is packed with a whole host of competitively priced designer shops.
